Q: You have extensive experience in perfusion and extracorporeal support. What excites you most about joining CBM?

A: Joining CBM is an exciting opportunity to apply my clinical and technical expertise to help enhance extracorporeal life support solutions. Over the years, I’ve worked with advanced perfusion and ECLS technologies, contributing to their implementation and development across various clinical settings. CBM’s commitment to education, innovation, and service excellence aligns perfectly with my vision of supporting the ECLS community and driving better outcomes for patients.

Q: You’ve worked across multiple countries. How have you seen ECLS evolve globally?

A: The adoption of ECLS and ECMO has grown significantly worldwide, becoming a critical life-saving therapy for diverse patient populations. It’s been inspiring to witness how advancements in technology and clinical protocols have expanded access and improved the effectiveness of extracorporeal support. What truly stands out is the passion and collaboration within the global ECLS community—no matter the location, professionals are united in their commitment to refining techniques, sharing knowledge, and continuously improving patient care.

Q: With your extensive clinical and product knowledge, what do you see as the future of ECLS, and how can CBM contribute?

A: The future of ECLS is precision-driven, data-supported, and patient-centered. As technology evolves, we’re moving toward smarter, safer, and more efficient solutions that enhance clinical decision-making and patient management. CBM is uniquely positioned to contribute by delivering high-quality service and repair solutions, supporting research initiatives, and fostering knowledge exchange. By strengthening our partnerships with healthcare professionals, we can help shape the next generation of extracorporeal therapies that improve both survival rates and quality of life.

Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of the ECLS world?

A: When I’m not immersed in all things ECLS, you’ll likely find me on the padel court—it’s my favorite way to stay active and recharge. I also run a small olive farm in Puglia, in the south of Italy, where we produce our own olive oil. It’s a completely different pace from the clinical world, but it keeps me grounded. There’s something incredibly rewarding about working with your hands and being connected to the land. It reminds me that whether it’s supporting life in the ICU or nurturing it in the soil, care and dedication make all the difference.

Q: Any final thoughts for the ECLS community?

A: My message to the ECLS community is simple: let’s stay connected, share knowledge, and keep pushing forward together. Collaboration and innovation are at the heart of what we do, and by working together, we can shape the future of ECLS and critical care. I look forward to meeting many of you at the upcoming EuroELSO Congress in Milan, 23-26 April 2025. Let’s continue to make a difference!

We’re thrilled to have Silvestro on board and look forward to the impact he’ll make at CBM and within the broader ECLS community. Welcome, Silvestro!
