Laura, can you tell us a bit about your professional background and what brought you to Lifemotion?

My journey began with a Biomedical Engineering degree from Politecnico di Milano, followed by a specialized Master’s in Engineering for Surgery focusing on cardiac, neuro, and orthopedic applications. This technical foundation gave me deep insights into how engineering principles can solve complex clinical challenges. I then built my career over 15+ years at Medtronic, progressing through various roles from clinical research to product management and strategic marketing across cardiovascular technologies.

Throughout my tenure at Medtronic, I’ve worked extensively with cardiopulmonary systems, ECLS technologies, and cardiovascular devices — gaining comprehensive understanding of both the technical complexities and market dynamics in this space. My experience spans the full product lifecycle, from clinical studies to commercialization, always with teams committed to improving patient outcomes.

What brought me to Lifemotion is the perfect alignment between my cardiovascular and ECMO expertise and Lifemotion’s mission-driven approach. Having worked deeply in this field, I understand the critical importance of ECMO technology and the impact it can have on patient lives. Lifemotion’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and tangible outcomes in ECMO resonated strongly with me. Joining the team felt like a natural evolution to contribute my specialized experience while continuing to grow within a company that shares the values I care about: authenticity, collaboration, and patient-centered care.

What excites you most about your new role as Business Director EMEA?

What excites me most about this role is the opportunity to make a real impact on how advanced therapies like ECMO are brought to patients across EMEA. It’s not only about driving business growth — it’s about building bridges between clinical teams, healthcare systems, and innovation, so that more patients can benefit from life-saving technologies.

I’m particularly inspired by the chance to work with diverse professionals across different countries, learning from each context and tailoring solutions that truly meet local needs. This role gives me the privilege to combine strategic vision with hands-on collaboration, and that’s what motivates me every day.

Where do you see the biggest opportunities for Lifemotion in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa?

I see significant opportunities for Lifemotion in strengthening access to ECMO therapy across regions where awareness and infrastructure are still developing. In many parts of EMEA, there is a growing recognition of the value of ECMO in critical care — but also a clear need for education, training, and sustainable programs to make it accessible.

Another opportunity lies in collaboration: working closely with healthcare professionals, hospitals, and health systems to tailor solutions that fit local realities. By combining innovation with practical implementation, Lifemotion can help build long-term capacity and ensure that advanced life-support therapies are not only available, but also effectively integrated into patient care.

Ultimately, the opportunity is to bridge gaps — between innovation and practice, between countries with different levels of resources, and between today’s needs and tomorrow’s standards of care.

How do you plan to build strong relationships with clinical and industry partners in the region?

For me, building strong relationships starts with listening. Every clinical team and every partner has its own context, challenges, and priorities. My first step will be to understand these deeply, so that we can co-create solutions rather than imposing one-size-fits-all approaches.

At the same time, this is not new to me — in my previous role I had the privilege of working closely with physicians and clinical teams, and I’ve seen firsthand how trust and collaboration are built over time. This new chapter is not just about starting fresh relationships, but also about continuing the journey of dialogue and partnership I’ve already begun.

I also believe in transparency and consistency. Trust is earned by being reliable, following through on commitments, and creating real value in every interaction. With clinical partners, that means supporting not only with technology but also with training, education, and ongoing collaboration. In short, my approach is to build relationships that are not transactional but transformational — rooted in mutual respect and shared purpose.

On a more personal note: what motivates you in your work, and what do you enjoy outside of it?

What motivates me in my work is knowing that what we do can directly or indirectly improve patients’ lives. Working in healthcare means being part of something bigger than ourselves, and this perspective keeps me focused and inspired every day. I’m also motivated by teamwork: I firmly believe that the best results are achieved when different perspectives unite around a common goal.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and being outdoors, whether traveling, exploring new places, or simply enjoying nature. I really enjoy painting. These moments give me balance and energy and often help me bring a new perspective to my professional life.

We’re thrilled to have Laura on board and look forward to the impact she’ll make at CBM and within the broader ECMO community across EMEA. Welcome, Laura!
