MIRANDOLA, Italy – April 2025
CBM Lifemotion announces the European launch of the Lifemotion® System following CE mark approval. The first European clinical cases were successfully completed at University Hospital of Hannover in Germany and University Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca in Murcia, Spain, marking the system’s first use outside China, where it has supported thousands of patients.
In a landmark case in Spain, the Lifemotion® System was used for inter-hospital transport and patient retrieval, running entirely on battery power for its motor, pump, and oxygenator. This case highlights the system’s exceptional mobility and reliability in critical care transport, reinforcing its role as a game-changing solution in extracorporeal life support.
The University Hospital of Hannover—one of Europe’s most well-published and earliest adopters of respiratory support technologies—and University Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca both praised the system for its innovative pump design, excellent gas exchange, low-pressure drop characteristics of the oxygenator, and a user interface that is intuitive and easy to operate—critical in high-pressure clinical environments.

The entire Lifemotion ECMO system has received approval for extended 14-day use including the individual components, setting the benchmark in sustained critical care support.
At both centers, clinicians praised the system’s innovative pump design, low pressure drop performance of the oxygenator, and intuitive, easy-to-use interface
“The Lifemotion® System brings a new level of flexibility and reliability to ECLS. Its compact design, seamless user interface, and ability to run on battery power made it especially effective during our patient transport case. We see great potential for this system not only in the ICU, but also in retrieval and emergency scenarios where mobility is essential,” said Dr. Juan Blanco Morillo, ECLS Care & Perfusion Unit Coordinator at University Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca, Murcia, Spain.
To showcase these initial clinical experiences, CBM will host an expert roundtable at EUROELSO 2025 in Milan on Thursday, April 24, featuring internationally renowned leaders in extracorporeal support. The panel, chaired by Dr. Heidi Dalton (ECMO specialist and pediatric intensivist, USA), Prof. Roberto Lorusso (cardiothoracic surgeon and ECLS researcher, Netherlands), and Dr. Gregory J. Schears (ECMO implementation and management expert, USA), will discuss the first European applications of the Lifemotion® System and explore its expanding clinical potential.
